    Question for carpenters\handyman

I have some leftover laminate flooring from my upstaires and want to put it down in my basement.. Problem is it's really close as to whether or not I will have enough. The area I want to do is approx 187 sq ft. I have 205 sq ft of laminate.. Do I have enough? Wondered if there was a rule of thumb... Do I need 10 or 20% extra kind of thing

    thanks guys

Oh ya the laminate was bought on a clear out so buying more isn't really an option

Why don't you just lay it out on your current flooring and see if you have enough? Won't be exact, but you can get a better idea.

I just did a floor and I bought 10% extra and had more than enough. If you calculate ahead there should not be much waste.

If your room is square then there should be no waste at all... cutting around (stairs, closet, etc...) is where the waste comes from.
If you think it's hard to meet new people, try picking up the wrong golf ball.

Yes this is what worries me.. I am doing the hall downstaires.. so lots of corners, closets etc.. I think I am going to gamble...

For my "L" shaped room in the basement, we bought 20% extra and barely had enough. At the end, we had one piece left over. Not one box, just one piece.

Ginker, remember, in order to install your laminate properly, you must stagger the joints between pieces across rows so inevitably, you will have to make cuts. I don't want to be a downer but I don't think you will have enough.

you could always consider picking up a box of similar stuff for inside the closets. As long as it is the same thickness & joints who would notice?
